Introducing Our Founders
Former British Superbike and MotoGP race winner James Ellison has enjoyed one of the most respected careers in British motorcycle racing. With decades of experience competing at the highest level, James has built a reputation not only for his success on track but also for his technical expertise, rider development and commitment to the sport.
In 2022, James met Irish entrepreneur Holly Smyth, founder of HSO Agency and the pair quickly formed a partnership built on ambition, determination and a shared passion for motorcycle racing. Together, they set out with two clear goals: to get James back competing in the British Championship and to establish Holly's own independent race team capable of competing at British championship level.
Combining Holly's expertise in business, marketing and commercial partnerships with James' wealth of racing knowledge, technical understanding and extensive paddock experience, their vision became reality with the launch of HSO Racing Team in early 2024. The team initially entered the British Superbike Championship as a wildcard outfit before securing a full-time place on the grid, establishing itself as a respected independent team within the paddock.
Today, HSO Racing Team powered by MJM continues to grow both on and off the circuit, with a clear vision of competing at the highest level while developing the next generation of motorcycle racing talent. Now entering their third season together, Holly and James have helped riders gain valuable experience through wildcard opportunities, mentorship and support, with several progressing to full-time positions within the British Superbike Championship.
Away from race weekends, James delivers professional rider coaching and track tuition, passing on the knowledge and experience gained throughout his distinguished racing career. Combined with HSO's expertise in marketing, sponsorship activation and commercial partnerships, the team offers a unique platform that supports riders, brands and partners both on and off the track.

Mark and Jena McDonald
Mark and Jena McDonald, Texans based in Oklahoma, are long-time friends and supporters of James Ellison, united by a shared passion for motorcycle racing and rider development.
Dedicated enthusiasts of trials racing, they have supported numerous young riders across the USA and Europe.
In late 2025, they founded MJM Racing with a vision to power and invest in HSO Racing Team, becoming the title partner for the 2026 British Superbike Championship season.
Bike Maintenance and Content Creator
Sam Smyth
Sam Smyth combines his passion for motorcycle racing with creative storytelling as HSO Racing Team's Bike Maintenance Support and Content Creator.
Founder of automotive social media management Full Send Creative, Sam plays a key role in supporting the team both in the paddock and behind the camera, helping maintain the bikes while capturing the moments that bring the team's journey to life.
His enthusiasm for the sport and eye for creative content make him an invaluable part of the HSO Racing Team powered by MJM.

Ellie Tierney is a passionate young professional building her career in the motorcycle industry through digital content creation.

Paul and Karen Smyth
Paul and Karen Smyth provide invaluable race support across every aspect of HSO Racing Team powered by MJM, assisting with logistics, organisation and the day-to-day operations that keep the team running smoothly.
With a lifelong background in motorcycle racing, Paul brings a wealth of practical knowledge and understanding of what it takes to compete at the highest level, while Karen's dedication and support in the paddock and at HSO HQ make them an integral part of the team's success.

Benji Compton
Benji Compton is a key member of the HSO Racing Team powered by MJM, providing bike support and paddock assistance throughout the season.
A former successful speedway racer and BMW F900 Cup competitor, Benji brings valuable racing experience, technical knowledge and practical insight, working alongside James to support bike preparation, garage setup and the smooth running of the team on race weekends.

Zoe Mears
Zoe Mears is a trained mechanic with a background working for Volkswagen and a lifelong passion for motorcycle racing.
As a valued member of HSO Racing Team powered by MJM, she supports bike preparation, tyre runs and fuel collection, playing an important role in keeping the team operating efficiently throughout every race weekend.
